Couples & marital therapy

Most couples enter a psychotherapist’s office when they feel their relationship is approaching or has reached a point of crisis. Communication tends to get stuck in a painful cycle and people who once felt close are now struggling to connect. Utilizing current advances in Attachment-based interventions, our goal is to evaluate relational barriers clearly, build upon strengths, and enhance partners’ ability to communicate and connect effectively.

The process of helping people break disruptive patterns and finding ways of reconnecting is incredibly gratifying work and we relish the opportunity to grow with each couple that comes to our practice.

Couples counseling can turn a tumultuous time into an opportunity for tremendous healing and growth. The couple’s therapist can be experienced as a neutral guide, or a process consultant, which helps uncover a new understanding, make important changes, and provide tools to effectively cope and work together.

If you are in a crisis in your relationship or interested in expanding on healthy relationship patterns and preventing pitfalls, please contact us to learn more about couple’s treatment.

Comprehensive psychological assessments & psychological testing

Psychological testing is a comprehensive treatment procedure used to answer questions related to emotional and cognitive functioning for children, adolescents, and adults. At GROW, the process begins with a referral question proposed by a family member, physician, or teacher. Often the first meeting involves a clinical interview, followed by the administration of objective, projective, and cognitive tests. After the administration, the data is integrated with important client history for the written report and feedback session. Testing results allows for medication and treatment plan adjustments. In addition to identifying weaknesses and areas of growth, psychological testing can identify the individual strengths of the client. For a referral at GROW, please contact Chad Alcorn, Psy.D (ext. 702).

Young children

Children have unique behavioral and emotional needs within the therapeutic environment. Child therapists utilize special, age-appropriate techniques within therapy. Therapy with a young child is a combination of structure and creativity. It allows the therapist to help the young child make meaning of their experience and empower them to cope with their feelings.

An essential component to treatment with young children is collaboration with the family system. Goals are established and managed in partnership with the parent or caregiver. Ultimately, the therapist engages the family system to best understand the child and in turn can enhance the family’s understanding of their little one and offer unique ways in which to support his/her healthy growth.
