About Kristen

Kristen has dedicated her career to public service. For 18 years, Kristen has worked as a public high school educator. She taught social studies for 16 years and currently works as a school counselor and English teacher. In the classroom, Kristen understands that learning is possible only when students feel physically and emotionally safe and secure. As a school counselor, Kristen provides one-on-one counseling, small group interventions, and classroom-based lessons for students in grades nine through 12. Kristen brings her wealth of experience as an educator to her therapy work with adolescent and young adult clients. She understands their daily lives and is attuned to the unique challenges of identity development in today’s world.

Kristen lives locally with her husband, their teenage daughter, an elderly cat, and a middle-aged Labrador mix. Kristen enjoys practicing yoga, taking her dog for walks, cooking, and the occasional Taylor Swift dance party in her family room. She loves to travel. Her favorite trips include visits to Croatia, Iceland, and Bali. Kristen is also passionate about civic involvement, with a particular emphasis on expanding the youth vote.

Kristen’s approach to therapy

As a therapist, Kristen is committed to meeting clients where they are. The foundation of Kristen’s practice is person-centered, Kristen brings authenticity and empathy to her relationships with clients, and she is driven by genuine curiosity in others’ experiences. Kristen sees her clients as the experts on their own lives, and she endeavors to see the world through their eyes. Because of her emphasis on empowering clients, she also draws heavily from narrative therapy. Kristen has seen so many adolescents and young adults struggle because they tell themselves “stories” that they are not smart enough, talented enough, attractive enough, and so on. Kristen believes that changing the story can change the client’s life. Kristen’s goal is to help her clients recognize and harness their strengths so that they can rewrite their own life stories.
